Some of the first stamps ever issued in New Zealand, half a dozen examples of the 1855 Queen Victoria stamps, have sold at auction. John Mowbray, of Mowbray Collectibles, says he had penny, tuppenny, and shilling versions of the stamp. Mr Mowbray says the stamps attracted a lot of interest from around New Zealand and overseas. He says the tuppenny stamp sold for $500, the shilling stamp for $3200, and the penny stamp for $4000. Mr Mowbray says one of the stamps went to an Australian collector, but he understands the rest went to New Zealanders. Select from the choices below or visit the Latest Audio Page .
