Sweet Magnolia's is an elegant indulgence...

Submitted by admin on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 - 05:35

Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains just a bit past Sperryville is a new shop.

Whether making Sperryville a final destination or heading on to see the fall foliage, visitors can stop by Sweet Magnolia's to meet owner Ann Ullrich and check out her unique gifts and antiques.

Ullrich retired early to have more time to spend with her two grandchildren, Grayson and Jacob Love. After operating a restaurant and teaching school in Maryland, Ullrich decided that opening Sweet Magnolia's was a perfect way to showcase her favorite merchandise. Ullrich has a real passion for decorating and describes her shop as "refreshing."

Sweet Magnolia's has a good display of books, cards and collectibles. There are items for children like toys and stuffed animals, puzzles and drawing papers, crayons, frogs and chirping crickets.

Two particularly charming finds are Wind Spinners and candles. Wind Spinners catch the light and twirl gracefully. The candles come in papa, mama and baby sizes and come in pumpkin spice, sugar cookie, banana nut bread, apple and old-fashioned cinnamon.

The shop has a little something for everyone -- silk ties, bookends an assortment of key chains...

Ullrich also has a fine selection of stocking stuffers, including pill boxes, pins and compact mirrors.

Gift baskets from Sweet Magnolia's can easily stand alone as a decorative centerpiece, and Ullrich can help customers fill them with wonderful goodies. Camille Beckman's line of products will meet with approval from even the most discriminating bath connoisseurs.

For the kitchen, Ullrich carries a solid cherry, oil finished French rolling pin -- great for rolling out dough for this fall's pumpkin pie.

Sweet Magnolia's carries a line of jewelry, including Peterstone and Sienna earrings and pendants. There are also ladies' handbags, some with marbled artwork from Solace. The design is permanent and gets softer with use.
