Development begins at Parke West...

Submitted by admin on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 23:35

Nick Glimcher, executive vice president of Glimcher Ventures , said lease commitments are in hand for 60 percent of the project.

Tenants unveiled during the groundbreaking this month included As You Wish, a custom pottery store; Blue Wasabi, a sushi and martini bar; clothing and accessory stores including Brighton Collectibles, Christopher & Banks, Francesca's, Hot Topic, J. Stephens Shoes, PacSun and Sunglass Hut; and Sandbar Mexican Cantina.

Fully developed, the $250 million mixed-use project will include 370,000 square feet of retail directly off Northern Avenue, with a 215-unit apartment complex and 100,000 square feet of office space just to the east along a Loop 101 frontage road that will soon be built.

Scottsdale-based Shea Commercial, which owns 11 acres on which the offices will be built, expects to decide by the end of November whether to develop the property itself or sell to another developer. Though the property is zoned for large multistory buildings, the offices as currently conceived would be two or three stories.

The residential element is to be built by Wood Residential, Nick Glimcher said, and is expected to break ground "sometime soon."

Peoria Mayor John Keegan called Parke West "a gateway project for us in many ways," noting that it was the city's first such upscale project and could set the tone for visitors entering the city via Loop 101.
