There is a tent set up with heat, lights, a wide variety of carving tools and plenty of pumpkins. Area residents are invited to stop in and carve a pumpkin or two. Each year, and carve many of the jack-o’-lanterns, working for days and showing endless imagination for designs. Past year’s jack-o’-lanterns have included a giant sea turtle, an alligator, a skeleton in a coffin, snakes and Audrey II, the plant from the Little Shop of Horrors. This year, Art is hoping to carve a dragon and Cinderella’s coach. The jack-o’-lanterns will be on display and lit at nightfall Monday, Oct. 31, and Tuesday, Nov. 1. Lull Farm is on Route 13 North in Milford. The Souhegan Valley Festival Ballet Company is looking for performers age 6 and older for “The Nutcracker.” This version is not a typical Nutcracker. There are many roles for both dancers and non-dancers: soldiers, party children, mice and angels. There are also roles for adults. Ongoing auditions are being held at the Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley Amato Family Performing Arts Center in Milford. Winter is coming and Prudential Verani is holding its fourth annual coat drive, collecting clean coats, hats, mittens and scarves to help people in New Hampshire stay warm. All donations will be given to local shelters, charitable organizations and to those less fortunate. Coats can be dropped off at these Prudential Verani offices: 125 East Dunstable Road, Nashua; 4 Derry St., Hudson; and 633 Elm St., Milford. The Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce will present a free workshop for women, “Dress for Success” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Milford Middle School Enrichment Program invites the public to a talent showcase from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in the Milford Middle School cafeteria. Treasures Antiques & Collectibles will host its annual “Home for the Holidays” gala from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5-6. The shop will be decorated in holiday style, inside and out, with decorative items, ornaments, Old World Santas, vintage holiday lighting and other festive arrangements. Light refreshments will be provided. In addition, in-house dealer of “The Cozy Tea Cart” will be offering a free sampling of teas and providing a selection of gift giving ideas. In-house dealers will be available to greet shoppers and answer questions on decorating for the winter season. Hampshire Hills will hold School Day’s Out activities programs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, and Wednesday, Nov. 23. Students in kindergarten to grade 6 can participate in swimming, wall climbing, sports and games on their day off. Before-and after-care programs are available. The cost is $28 for members, $50 for nonmembers. Hampshire Hills will offer a baby-sitting course for boys and girls ages 11-15. This is a two-week, eight-hour course, that teaches basic first aid instruction, age appropriate games, infant care, safety techniques, accident prevention and tips for handling emergencies. The class meets from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 5 and 12. The cost is $40 for members, $60 for nonmembers. Space is limited. Seniors can sign up for a strength-training program to learn about the key components of an effective strength-training program. The program meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. or 1:30-2:30 p.m., or on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-2 p.m. or 2-3 p.m. This session will start Nov. 1, and continue until Dec. 8. Courses on Mondays include First Lego League (grades 5-8), Web design (grades 4-12), seasonal arts and crafts (grades 2-4) and Fun with Cooking (grades 5-8). Tuesday courses include acrylic painting on wood (grades 5-8), Fun with Cooking (grades 2-4) and urban hip-hop (grades 3-5 and grades 6-9). On Wednesdays: cheerleading (grades 3-8) and Bombardment League, a dodgeball game with bowling pins (grades 6-8). The Thursday course is online gaming (grades 4-8). Friday courses include basic programming (grades 4-12), club tech (grades 2-4) and Bombardment League (grades 3-5). Multiple day courses offered are theater on Tuesdays and Thursdays (grades 3-8), karate on Mondays and Thursdays and floor hockey on Thursdays and Fridays (grades 2-5).
